Rodolfo Buonocore was born in Mar del Plata, Argentina, in 1962. Though an artist from a young age, he graduated with an advanced degree in psychology at the UCA (Argentine Catholic University). He worked in the field for three years until, encouraged by the support of his family and fellow artists, he retired from the profession to fully dedicate himself to his art. He studied painting and drawing in Buenos Aires as an apprentice to Argentine artist, director and writer Jorge Acha (1946-1996), who was his mentor and most remarkable influence in his career. He had several exhibitions in Buenos Aires, that met with a remarkable welcome both from colleagues and critics.
He relocated to Los Angeles, California in 1990, and again to Austin, Texas in 2004, where he currently lives with his wife. Throughout his early career, Rodolfo’s focus was on mastering the art of drawing. As he grew as an artist, he continued exploring the world of color and the importance of light and integrating them in his pencil drawings and oil paintings. His works have been defined as "realistic portrayals of deep psychological exploration, a visible and yet subtle proof of how strangeness and miracle are at the reach of our sight and hand, only by means of a detailed observation of the minimal poses and gestures of persons". In his works, his point of view scrutinizes the inner thoughts and feelings of characters, as a magnifier, exposing the complexity of human beings and urban landscapes.
