Frontispiece - Apparition at the Circus
“Frontispiece – Apparition at the Circus” by Marc Chagall has a large central face that appears to be female with blue eyes and red lips and hair and a beaded head piece. There is a cluster of foliage in the lower left hand corner and a nude yellow woman standing atop the back of a red mule along the right edge of the piece. This lithograph measures 12.5 inches tall by 9.5 inches wide and was created in 1963 as a part of a bound book. This is from an unsigned edition of 6000, compiled and written by Fernand Mourlot and published by Monte Carlo: A. Sauret as “Chagall Lithographe 1957 – 1962”. This piece comes framed in a black semi-gloss contemporary scoop frame and double matted with white linen and glossy black matting.
